United Airlines and AirTran Checked Bag Fee

United Airlines announced last week that it’s dropping it’s original plan of increasing the price of a second checked bag to $50.00. The price will remain $25 for the second checked bag, and although the first checked bag will still cost $15, customers can avail of a 20 percent discount on the first check bag by paying for it online until January 31.

On the other hand, AirTran is joining the legacy carriers with its new $15 fee for the first checked bag, for trips booked on or after November 12, 2008, just in time for the holiday shopping and traveling season. The second bag fee will remain $25.
