Rhode Island’s warm and sunny Summers are renowned for boating, golfing, sport fishing, tennis, water-skiing, bicycling, beach-going and camping.

The place is notable for the great variety of natural beauty, cultural offerings, and social history. Anyone who thinks of Rhode Island will always have the images of Newport’s fabulous Gilded-Age mansions, the legacy of 12-meter yachting, and its famed jazz, folk and classical music festivals. One may also imagine the long and sandy beaches along the Atlantic Ocean.

During the winter months,  the outdoor ice skating rinks in both Providence and Newport have become family favorites as well.

There are plenty of fun things to do to satisfy everyone’s appetite for a vacation feast. Among Rhode Island’s attractions are:

  • The Mansions. Coming here is incomplete without a tour of the Newport’s mansions. Visit them by car or take a helicopter ride to get a spectacular view of the Bellevue Avenue’s world renowned mansions that were built as summer cottages by the plutocrats of the Gilded-Age. The likes of the Breakers, The Elms, Marble House, Rosecliff are just among the impressive artifacts of American social history that grace Newport’s rocky shoreline. Other points of interest by air are the Ocean Drive, the majestic Castle Hill and Rose Island light houses, Jacqueline Kennedy’s summer home, Hammersmith Farm, and the the aircraft carriers USS Forrestal and USS Saratoga.

  • Brinton Point State Park. Bring your kite or watch the numerous kites hovering the skies of Newport’s Ocean Drive. Kite enthusiasts gather here all year round to enjoy the breezy weather. The Newport Kite Festival is July.
  • Victorian-style Houses. Take a memorable walk along Benefit Street and appreciate the beauty of the beautiful and immaculately preserved Colonial, Federal, Greek Revival, and Victorian-style houses.
